Your marks go through several stages before being finalised and released. Here’s a breakdown of what happens and what you need to do.

Receiving your provisional marks

Once you have completed your assessments, your course team will mark them, and you will first be given feedback and a provisional mark. At this stage your mark may be subject to change.

You can find out when you’ll get your Coursework feedback in your Assessment Statement, which you can view on My Student Record. Marks for exams will be released within three weeks of the end of the exam period.

To see your provisional mark log into Blackboard and go to the My Grades/Grade Book section on your module Blackboard site.

If you have questions about your feedback and provisional marks, you should first contact your module tutor / leader to discuss this. You can contact Hallam Help if you are unsure on how to get in touch with your module tutor / leader.

Provisional marks cannot be appealed against. If you’ve got any questions contact your module tutor / leader or, if feel your performance was impacted by exceptional circumstances (such as illness) contact Hallam Help and request support from a Student Support Adviser if necessary.

Receiving your final marks

Once your provisional mark has been processed by an assessment board, you will receive your final mark. Contact your course leader for exact dates on when your final marks will be released.

You can view your final marks via My Student Record. If you expect to see a final mark and one isn’t there contact Hallam Help for further advice.

If you have been given a mark of zero, but believe you have completed the work on time, contact your module tutor in the first instance.

You must read your overall results very carefully. It is your responsibility to make sure you understand your results as what happens next will depend on the results you receive.

What happens next?

If you’ve passed your assessments no further action is required.

If you haven’t passed a module, you will need to go to the Additional Information column on the My Results tab in My Student Record as soon as possible.

It is important that you act quickly.

If you have questions about your final marks, contact your module tutor / leader in the first instance. If you need support understanding your results and what you need to do next, contact Hallam Help to access support from your Student Support Adviser.

Modules that require action from you will be highlighted in red on your Assessment Statement. Information on what action you need to take is detailed in the Next Steps section.

Appealing the decision on your final marks

You can appeal an assessment board decision, but only on specific grounds (reasons). If you wish to appeal a mark or a result decision, you must do this within 10 working days of the decision being made available to you.
