Sheffield Hallam University does not provide assessments for autism.

If you would like to be tested for autism you will need to discuss this with your doctor/ GP. The NHS website provides more information about getting an autism assessment.

It can be a long wait for an Autism assessment, but you don’t need a diagnosis to get a learning contract and support for your course. Please register with Disabled Student Support to disclose a disability and to access support.

To access funded support, for example from Disabled Students’ Allowances you will need evidence.

Evidence you provide could be in the form of:
  • a diagnostic assessment completed at any age by a relevant professional.
  • a letter written and signed by your GP or healthcare professional.
  • an Education, Health and Care Plan.
  • a working diagnosis. We can accept a letter that confirms you have been referred for a diagnostic assessment.

If you can't provide any of the above documents, you could ask your medical professional to complete a disability evidence form (PDF, 203.8KB).
If you have any questions, please contact Hallam Help to book a telephone Quick Query Appointment with Disabled Student Support.
