Some courses or modules will create template portfolios for you to complete; either for assessment, or to help you gather and present examples of your learning and development.

You can also create your own portfolio for personal projects or to help you gather your own thoughts, reflections, and evidence on your learning journey.

A workbook is usually a collection of Pages, but may also contain any other type of asset.

The key feature of portfolios is that they are completely customisable – many courses may give you an example structure to start from, but you can add, remove and re-order all the elements. Be careful not to remove any sections which are required for assessment.

Portfolio pages are put together in similar way to how you'd build a slide in Microsoft PowerPoint – selecting blocks from the 'Add content' menu that appears across the top of the page. Each element of your portfolio has its own adjustable properties.

Some example portfolios include:

You can tell if the asset you're working on is a portfolio by looking at the symbol that appears next to it in your Asset Store.

PebblePad portfolios have a square, green icon containing the letters 'PO' in white.

PebblePad workbooks have a square, orange icon containing the letters 'WK' in white. Some courses may refer to what they've asked you to complete as 'a portfolio' in practice, but it's actually a workbook in terms of what you need to do in PebblePad. Workbooks have very different functionality to portfolios in terms of how you complete them. See our workbook guide for more details.
