Withdrawing from University

It's not unusual to have doubts about your course or university and consider leaving. Before making a final decision it's important to get advice as early as possible.

Contact a Student Support Adviser (SSA) to discuss reasons for wishing to withdraw.

Our SSAs offer confidential, non-judgmental advice and can provide additional support you may not already be aware of. They can also help you to explore alternative options if you wish to continue your studies.

Things to consider

If you decide to withdraw, it is important to consider all the implications of leaving university. This includes understanding potential financial and academic consequences that may impact you.

Such as:

  • accommodation contracts you have agreed to

  • outstanding tuition fees

  • any NHS bursaries you receive

  • if you are a studying on a student visa

  • your future study and funding

For more detailed information about these implications, read the withdrawal checklist.

Submitting a withdrawal form

In order for your withdrawal request to be actioned, you must complete a withdrawal form.

You will receive the withdrawal form when you contact a Student Support Advisor (SSA).

If you do not submit a Withdrawal form

If you do not complete and return a withdrawal form, you will remain enrolled as a student at the University and liable for fees.

What happens next?

Once your withdrawal form is completed and returned, your request to leave the University will be processed.

Your request will take effect from the date you return the form. You will be emailed by a member of the Student Records Service who will confirm your withdrawal request and  update your student record to reflect your decision to withdraw.
