Requesting counselling

The student wellbeing team offer a free counselling service and will refer you to a counsellor if appropriate.

In some instances counselling may not be possible or may not be the most appropriate support for you. It may be that longer term therapy is needed or that medical issues need to be prioritised.

The first step is to register with the wellbeing team.

If you've already registered

If you have registered before but have not contacted the team for three months or more, you will need to register again.

What happens when I register?

Registration gives you access to our booking system. You can then arrange an initial 50 minute session with a wellbeing practitioner. This is a chance to discuss your situation and find out what support is most appropriate for you.

Online support and workshops

Our wellbeing webpages offer a range of self help support that you can access independently:

  • Self help articles and videos
  • A-Z of support topics, such as depression and anxiety
  • Online courses and apps

We recommend that you explore the webpages to see what is available.

Community support

Hallam students have free access to Togetherall, an online community with 24–hour support from mental health professionals. Register using your university email address for access to courses, articles and support forums.
