Module selection is a very important process. It is your opportunity to decide which aspects of your subject area you would like to focus on in your next academic year. You will be contacted by your Faculty in advance with details of the module selection period. Make sure you take note of all the information provided.

Depending on your course, you may be able to choose your modules online (via My Student Record). If this applies to you, you will receive an email to your SHU account advising you what to do. Some courses do not have module selection, whilst some use a paper based selection process - you will be informed of the appropriate process by your Faculty.

Getting started

  • Login to My Student Record with your network ID and password - there is a link at the top right hand corner of any shuspace page
  • Should you experience any login problems, contact IT Help on ext 3333 or via their portal
  • Maximise the screen for ease of use
  • Click on My Modules tab tab at the top of the screen
  • Under Online Module Selection, click Click here to select your modules
  • Read the information on the Welcome page carefully, checking the details displayed
  • If details are correct, click Click here to select your modules
  • The Module Registration screen will open
  • The middle section of the screen displays your mandatory (required) modules, and the bottom section displays elective module collection(s) from which you need to make your selection

Selecting your modules

  • The rules for choosing your electives are displayed against at the top of each list or group of lists on the left hand side of the screen
  • Read the rules carefully
  • Click on View List for each collection to see details of modules in that list
  • Click on the module name for a summary description of each module (more details are available via click to view more details)
  • To select a module click the Add button and the module will appear under the Selected Modules box on the right hand side
  • Continue to select more electives based on the rules displayed
  • You can cancel any selection by clicking the bin symbol to the right of your selected module

Confirming your choices

  • Work your way through all the collections you need to select from
  • Click Submit Selections if you are happy with your choices, or cancel any selections using the bin symbol to re-select
  • Your selected modules are then displayed on the Confirm Your Choices screen.
  • A reminder to click the Finish button will appear This is your last chance to change your mind!
  • Check your selections carefully. If you wish to change your selections, click Undo Selections to return to the start of the process
  • If you are happy with your choice, you must click Finish to ensure that your choices are confirmed. If you do not do this your selections will not be attached to your record recorded in the system


  • Once you click Finish, you will see a list of all your modules on the Module Selection Process Completed screen
  • We recommend that you print a copy of the final confirmation page for your records
  • You will receive an email confirming the modules you have selected
  • If you do not receive an email, then please a Hallam Help Point
  • You cannot amend your selections after this point. so If you have any queries please contact a Hallam Help Point

Viewing your selected modules

  • You can view your modules in My Student Record after selection by clicking on the My Modules tab at the top of the screen
  • Under Online Module Selection, click Click here to select your modules
  • Please note that module selections can take up to 24 hours to be displayed
  • Remember, all module selections are always subject to timetabling and agreement at Faculty level
