Documents opened from emails

Documents that have been opened from email attachments are prone to being lost. Remember that these documents need to be SAVED first before you can work on them. If you have lost a file while working from an email attachment please enquire at a Hallam Help Point to see if it can be retrieved.

In some cases these files can be stored/saved locally on the PC you were working on at the time. If this happens, make a note of the PC location and the PC name/number and report it to a Hallam Help Point or via IT Help on 0114 225 3333.

Files saved to memory sticks

If the problem is with a usb stick, Hallam Help Point staff may be able to recover your work, unless the USB is actually damaged.

SHU laptops

Do not save work onto University laptops as they are wiped regularly. Save your work to a removeable storage device in case the laptop runs out of battery or is turned off.
