Seminar Group Change Requests for 2025/26

Can I change seminar groups?

The University allows students to request seminar changes for a very limited number of reasons.  Your request must be in line with these accepted reasons:

  • Circumstances linked to your Learning Contract
  • Medical reasons
  • Student Carer (with a carer support plan)
  • Registered Elite Athlete on recognised University Programme
  • Representing Hallam in sporting competitions (BUCS or otherwise)
  • Work Commitments
  • Caring responsibilities e.g. unregistered carer / childcare


If you meet the above criteria, please submit an online seminar change request form.
Even if your circumstances meet the criteria for requesting a change, we cannot guarantee your request will be processed, as moving to the new seminar group may create clashes with sessions you are already timetabled to attend or there may not be space to accommodate additional students in the new seminar group.  You will receive an email advising you whether your change request can be accommodated or not.  Where information is missing or incorrect, you will be asked to resubmit a form with the correct details.


When can I request to change Seminar Groups?
You can request a seminar group change only during specific times in the academic year.  For most undergraduate and postgraduate courses, requests must be submitted before the Thursday of Week 2 of teaching in each semester or trimester. This helps ensure you don’t miss too much teaching with your new group.  Request deadline dates are indicated in the table below.

Please note: any requests received after the deadline date will be declined. If your course is not taught over the standard university teaching weeks, please contact Hallam Help for advice on who to speak to request a change. Their contact details can be found at the bottom of this page.
